Introduction

Welcome to my Masters of Arts in  Education, Sports Coaching, and Leadership showcase (MAED)! On this page, you’ll find samples of my work from my two years in the program. The work I created falls into three categories. The sports coaching and leadership program gave me the opportunity to incorporate a new way of athlete development into my coaching, building relationships, and serving the athletes I work with. Please use the links on each title to view the full piece of my work.

Athlete Development

Going the Extra Mile

Used adobe spark webpage creator to build lessons and ways to stay connected throughout the pandemic. I used this knowledge of adobe spark to build a program that kept my students connected, engaged, and healthy throughout the pandemic. I later was able to bring adobe spark to the classroom when it came to lesson planning for students. I started off my first lesson, with understanding the basic knowledge of the game of volleyball.

Monson's Positive Youth Development Volleyball Model

When building a strong culture as a coach you need to incorporate a set of standards for your athletes to follow. Encourage these athletes to follow this model and help them understand the importance of building a strong positive atmosphere. I was able to build and create a PowerPoint slide that showcases the importance of building relationships, and the outcomes of a positive mindset.

Empowering Athletes for Who They Are

In the world today everyone experiences a time of judgment for who they are. As a coach, I have the ability to make kids feel special to help them understand that they are important. Empowering female athletes is insanely important and to helps them understanding that strong is beautiful. In the paper attached below, you will read about how supporting young women is something I strive to bring to the forefront of my coaching every season.

 Building Relationships

Communication, Drive, and Teamwork

Communicating, Drive, and Teamwork are all important concepts that need to be incorporating while working with athletes. Incorporating these concepts can instill both confidences in youth athletes and encourage them to build relationships. Gain insight into how I believe these 3 concepts should be incorporated in a youth athlete's life through a research paper written during my time in the MAED program.

Developmental Assets

Developing youth athletes is important, in order to do this you must incorporate and lead by example when explaining what the correct behaviors are in a gym or on a team. Developing athletes starts with creating developmental assets they are able to achieve and understand the importance of. Throughout my time in the MAED program, I was able to gain insight into what developmental assets should be incorporated and was able to showcase my beliefs through a PowerPoint.

Serving Young Athletes

Training Coaches

Building, instilling, and growing young coaches is very important. As a head coach, it is your responsibility to build into your staff members in order to build a strong program. Linked in this section is the research paper I wrote about training your assistants and encouraging them to promote Positive Youth Development (PYD).

Creating a Fun Learning Environment

Encouraging players to understand the game of volleyball from a different light. Incorporating fun ways to learn the sport to help keep kids of all ages engaged and have fun while learning. In the link below, I showcased my ability to think outside of the box while encouraging players to see creativity in a different light.

Being a Positive Role Model

As a coach, you are put in a place to be a positive role model for your athletes. It is your responsibility to be there for them when they reach out to let you know something is wrong or that they need help. The assessment of Kaila, which is linked below it touches on her family troubles and how I strive to be a role model in her life.
